Honestly, it’s hard not to be jaded when I walk out of an unsuccessful code of a child and immediately get 6-7 non emergencies and people who are pissed they had to wait. I had a guy who had a literal splinter who yelled that I took too long to see him. He heard the code blue overhead and saw us pick up a pulseless child and rush them into our resus room. Loved the TV show The Pitt, but I hate how the ER docs would give their beautiful speeches about staying off drugs, taking meds, not drinking, etc. Any ER doc after a few months knows that until the patient wants to help themselves, it’s wasting breath. Treat and repeat.

One of my professors (white guy who apparently fell in love with korean literature and moved there) gave a brief explanation about "fan death", saying that it partially had its roots in shame about suicide.
It was easier to say some pseudoscience about oxygen and airwaves killing your depressed relatives than saying that they took their own lives.

Leaving such a fan running all night could have caused carbon monoxide poisoning I would think, fueling the persistent belief. But then attitudes about mental health change, and ceiling fans no longer directly run on petroleum, but the superstition remains psychologically fossilized.
